Kick-offs

The Goodwin Library has done two kick-offs over the last week as part of their annual Summer Reading Program. The first kick-off took place on June 23rd. We were a little nervous because we had to change the venue because of the very wet weather we have been having. We had over 200 people show up and there was food and entertainment for everyone. The Family Summer Reading Program was a huge success. We had a hot dog dinner for the families. We had museums and some businesses set up to display information and programs that they are doing. We had everything from the Fisher Cats, Traveling Tales, Planetariums, Banks, and the list keeps going. We also had a magician perform that night. He did a great job of making the show memorable for all age groups. There were raffles and prizes to be won and everyone had a great time.

A week later we had the Teen Summer Program kick-off and it was a success as well. We had 15 teenagers ranging from 6th grade to freshman. The kids had a blast making drinks but more importantly making memories and building friendships. These kids are from all different walks of life and from different crowds. However, while they are in this teen setting they are all one and the same and those boundaries put up by society start to blur. It is a miraculous thing to watch and it makes you grateful to be a part of it. The teenagers in this area are an incredible group of kids. They are intelligent, funny, quick-witted, and it only gets better from there. They have a lot to share with the world.

The rest of the summer we have lots going on including: programs at the school (July 15, 22, and 29), cartooning(July 6 and 13 please sign up in advance), dancing (July 28), games (all summer), crafts (every Friday), and lots of fun (all year round). We hope that everyone will participate and we look forward to seeing you here at the library.
