The two amnesty weeks were a great success! 131 items worth $2,517.43 were returned. We would like to thank everyone who participated for returning these items so that others may enjoy them.

8th Annual Poetry Competition and Awards Night
This was a record year for entries in the Adult category. We had 49 entries from in town and around the state. We also had 16 Teen poems and 5 in the Children’s category: 70 entries total! It was a challenge for the judges to narrow down the winners, and we want to thank everyone who submitted a poem. And the winners are…drum roll:

Thanks to our three terrific judges, to the Womans Club for the use of the room, to the Friends of the Goodwin Library for sponsoring us and running the tea this year. We also we want to thank everyone who baked all the goodies. A special thanks to my lovely assistant Brooke Marston for her help presenting the awards.

We want to say a BIG thank you to our fabulous Friends group for buying our movie license, a new projector to show movies, and the pass for the Children’s Museum. These were some of the items cut to meet our 2010 level funded budget. Because of our FRIENDS support, we will now be able to move forward with some our exciting program ideas.

Kid's Cartoon Club

If you love to draw, write, and create your own characters, the Cartoon Club wants YOU! This month we will be doing a mini comic book. Call 755 -2944 x 2 and reserve a space at the next meeting. Remember, each month features a fun project that will broaden your cartooning skills. We welcome your ideas!

The Children’s Room staff is busy preparing for the 2010 Summer Reading Program Make Waves at Your Library. Watch this newsletter for more information on this exciting and fun program offered for the summer!
The Children’s Room will be offering special crafts during April Vacation Week (April 19-23). Plan to stop by to try a craft and check out some books to read during your break. We have a great selection to choose from including the Ladybug and Newbury Award-winning titles.

Gardeners’ Roundtable Giant Pumpkin Talk

You do not have to be Cinderella to love giant pumpkins! This month the Gardener’s Roundtable welcomes Hiram Watson who will be speaking about his experience raising these veggie superstars. He may even bring along some of his giant pumpkin seeds to share, so be sure to join us.

Book Donations
We will not be taking any more book donations until
the end of May. Then we will be collecting books and DVDs in good condition only for Hay Day. We also ask our patrons please do not put any donated books in the book drop. The book drop is for returned library materials ONLY. Thank you.
Out of Town Card Fee Increase
Dear Out of Town Patrons: Over the past many years, the library budget has expanded to accommodate our many programs and services. This has resulted in an increased amount of tax dollars that our local taxpayers are sending to the library. In order to continue to offer these same services to our out-of-town patrons, we will be increasing the cost of out of town cards to $20.00 beginning July 1, 2010.

Spring Cleaning with a bonus! Dig out all those overdue books, movies, etc. and return them between April 12 and April 24 and NO FINES will be charged!
8th Annual Poetry Competition and Awards Night
The deadline for the Poetry Contest entries is Friday, April 9 at 5:00 PM. There are 3 age categories: Children ages 6-12, Teens ages 13-18, and Adults aged 19 and up. We also have a special award, the Promising Poet Award, chosen by the library staff. Stop in and pick up your entry forms at the library or download them from our website

The winners will be announced at our classy Poet’s Tea and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 28 at 6:00 PM. We are also looking for volunteers to donate home baked goodies for the Poet’s Tea. Call 755 2944 ext: 2 for more info.
Town Meeting Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00!
The Library will be closing at 5:00 PM to allow our staff to attend. Remember: You cannot vote from your couch or armchair! Your voice will only be heard if you attend Town Meeting. A few Hours a year is a small price to pay for the most democratic process in the world!
