Are your books overdue, again? Here is another reason to donate! Pay off your fines of up to $5.00 with donated canned goods. Two cans equal $1.00 off your fines. This is another way of helping out our community.

Food Donations

This winter many of our neighbors and their families will be doing without the necessities to celebrate this year. If you would like to help out, you may bring canned goods and non-perishable food items to the library for the Farmington Food Pantry. We will also be collecting personal care items plus food and necessities for pets!

Heads up, newsletter readers! We are in need of small or medium sized t-shirts to use as paint shirts for the children! They don’t need to be new, but would appreciate clean condition.

Teen Reads Twilight Movie Thank You

First off, thanks to our young patrons who attended the Twilight Movie Night for being so well behaved and such good sports when things ran a bit late. A big thank-you to the CHANCES volunteers for helping us set up the room for the movie, and special big thanks to our trusty trustee, Brian Beaverstock for providing the projector. We also want to say a special thank you to teen baker Brianna B. for making an incredible Twilight cake! (If you are looking for a cake for an event, you can contact Brianna through the library and we will pass on messages.)

We would also like to extend a very special Thank-You to Pat Taylor and her sister, Linda Wade, for donating the incredible Twilight souvenirs which came directly from Forks, WA, the setting for the books and film.

We just could not provide these fantastic programs without the help of our volunteers and we want each one of you to know how greatly we appreciate you!

Public Health Alert

Public Health Alert: We are making every effort to keep our staff and patrons healthy through this nasty flu season; so while we truly appreciate our community’s enthusiasm for our programs, if you are not feeling well or are just outright sick, please, please, please do NOT go out in public places like the Library!!

Isinglass Book List

The Flume: New Hampshire Teen Reader’s Choice Award

The Flume: NH Teen Reader’s Choice Award was created in 2005 in response to a New Hampshire teens’ request to have a book award geared towards high school students. It was created with the intent of being a book list for Young Adults in high school (Grades 9-12). This award is a state-wide venture led by a collaborative effort from school and public librarians. Each year teens nominate titles, published within the last two years, they think deserve to be recognized. Librarians then narrow the group of titles to a list of 13. Teens then vote for the winning title from the list of 13.

We will be posting more information on the Flume Books in the Teen Section. Please feel free to learn about all 13 and join in reading these books!

Hay Day Book Donations

We are still accepting book donations for our booth at Hay Day on August 22nd, so if you have any hardcover or paperback adult or children’s books in good, clean condition, (no Reader’s Digest condensed books, text books, or encyclopedias, please!), we would be happy to take them. We are also looking for good, clean, unscratched DVDs and VHS movies for our sale. Be sure to visit the booth and meet the Friends of the Goodwin Library. They will have information on how to join the Friends group and also how to get a library card if you don’t have one already!

Makeover!!!

We here at the library are always trying to find ways of making things easier for our patrons. We decided that we needed to change how our blog worked. Instead of having each staff member have a page we decided to consolidate into the basic areas of the library. We now have a Children's Room, Adult Floor, and Teen page. We also have a Genealogy page and a Staff Picks page. These are for your benefit and growth as a patron. We hope this makes things a little easier and it will work out better in the future!

Free Public Wi-Fi

We also now have Free Public Wi-Fi access. This service is proved open access to anyone with wireless capabilities. Go through the Goodwin web icon and it is available 24/7 just for you!

Downloadable Audio Books

The Goodwin Library is now a member of the New Hampshire State Library Downloadable Audio Book Consortium. Patrons can now reserve, borrow, and download Audio Books from the NHSL library directly to their own computers and/or MP3 players. Please stop by the library to get specific directions.

Museum Passes

We now have museum passes for the Currier Museum in Manchester, the Children’s Museum in Dover, the NH Farm Museum in Milton, the NH Historical Society in Concord, the Wright WWII Museum in Wolfeboro and the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord. Don’t forget, patrons need a valid adult library card to use these passes.
